Hurricane Helene Disaster Response - 2024
Description
This is a deployment to the region of Western N. Carolina and Eastern Tennessee in response to flash flooding damage caused by Hurricane Helene.
Details and additional logistics are coming together. So please be patient as more details will be forthcoming and provided via email once you sign up.
You'll be doing one or more of the following:
- Interacting with survivors to offer Emotional & Spiritual Care, to make sure they feel seen, known, and loved by God.
- Doing flood remediation / muck outs on residential homes
- Helping with a saw team to pull brush & limbs
- Picking up general debris
- Interacting with the property owners
- Possible administrative duties
- Possible hospitality work at the base camp location for volunteers
Date: Start date is Thursday, October 3rd and End date is currently Sunday, October 13th
Time: 8a - 4p every day except Sunday which will end at 1p
Where: Newport, TN is the current jumping off point (more details to follow)
What to bring: More details will be provided in the email communications once you sign up.
- Housing will be "indoor car camping" style utilizing your own air mattress or cot and sleeping bag
- All meals will be provided
- Showers and bathrooms are available at the site
- Closed toe shoes/boots, eye & ear protection, gloves, face mask, work clothes that you don't mind getting muddy and dirty, pillows, toiletries, shower towel and wash cloth, etc.
