October Second Saturday Simple Serve
Description
Masters of Disaster recognizes that in addition to the call of those in need in the aftermath of a natural disaster, there are those who fight a daily battle of tackling the mounting tasks needed to keep up with their home. Encountering financial, emotional, and even physical obstacles can be paralyzing, and as they take the fight before them, even the most routine of tasks can be taxing. Before they know it, they find themselves in a hopeless situation. In light of these often unnoticed battles, Master of Disasters has willfully stepped forward into the gap.
Leslie Zucker is a resident of the Blue Ash/Kenwood area of Cincinnati. She is the neighbor of a MOD volunteer, Dave Stansbury and was referred to us by another MOD volunteer, Denny Mitchell. When Leslie found herself a widow several years back, she was also thrust into being the primary breadwinner and sole homeowner of a large home. Over the years, the overwhelming tasks of taking care of the outside, and inside of her home have become too much for her to do on her own. Her son recently moved out of town, and while her daughter has recently returned from college to live with her, the amount of items that need to be done around her home have become too much. With today's real estate market of inflated home costs, unfavorable interest rates, and limited homes available, Leslie is stuck in her home for now. We want to help Leslie create a space she can be proud of in hopes that she can eventually move to a home that is more manageable for her.
So, what do we plan to do? On Saturday, October 11th from 9a-Noon we will be helping Leslie get the exterior home not only presentable, but beautiful again. There are a variety of tasks that need to be done that day. She has a deck that will need to be stained, bushes that need to be removed, landscaping that needs to be weeded, edged and cleaned up. And, if we are able, some mulching and tree trimming.
Please bring gardening and yard care tools with you that you feel will help. We'd love to have you!
We also want to help offset the cost of materials, mulch, etc so that this is not another burden on Leslie. So please donate to cover those costs as you are able. Thanks!
